Session 1

Getting Started

Assess their own abilities, limits and preferences as a babysitter

Recognize the importance of a résumé and know how to write a résumé for a babysitting job

Practice the interviewing skills needed to obtain a babysitting job

Understand good business practices and appropriate work behaviors for babysitting

Know how to match skills with the job

Understand the importance of interviewing parents or guardians to ensure a positive babysitting experience for everyone.

BMS-CE 1.1 Students assess personal skills, abilities and aptitudes, and personal strengths and weaknesses as they relate to career exploration.

BMS-CE 3.1.1 Discuss the personal qualities and ethical and/or responsible behaviors related to school, home and employability and describe how these qualities and behaviors influence the feelings and actions of others.

BMS-CE 3.1.2 Demonstrate proper etiquette for meeting and greeting people and appropriate social skills for school and the workplace.

Leadership: Safe and Responsible Babysitting

Define leadership and recognize that it is an essential element of safe and responsible babysitting

Practice leadership skill in communication, decision making and discipline

Respect diversity among the children they baby-sit for

Apply the FIND Decision-Making Model

Recognize what behaviors to expect from children based on their developmental ages and stages

Basic Care: The Heart of Babysitting

Define several types of basic care

Learn to prevent germs from being transmitted

Recognize why they should keep their hands clean

Demonstrate how to care for infants, toddlers and children

Learn what emergency information a babysitter needs

7.1.2 Explain the relationships between personal health behaviors and the prevention of injury, illness, disease, and premature death.

7.1.8 Describe how pathogens, family history, and other risk factors are related to the cause and prevention of disease and other health problems.

7.1.9 Explain key health terms and concepts.

7.2.4 Demonstrate the ability to locate health products and services.

7.3.1 Demonstrate strategies to manage stress.

7.3.2 Demonstrate strategies to manage grief and anger.

7.3.3 Demonstrate ways to avoid and reduce threatening situations.

7.3.4 Develop injury prevention and management strategies for personal and family health.

Session 4 Health Standards

Stop: Think Safety!

Define ways to think about safety, remove safety related problems and use safety in the home and surrounding environment

Explain and demonstrate what to record onto the Baybsitter’s Report

Record.

7.1.8 Describe how pathogens, family history, and other risk factors are related to the cause and prevention of disease.

7.1.9 Explain key health terms and concepts.

Safe Play

Recognize how to guide children in safe play

Identify safe and unsafe toys at different developmental stages

Describe the importance of play for a child’s growth and development.

Identify whom to call for the type of emergency

Demonstrate how to care for common babysitting emergencies.
